Our Methane Production Trial at our Dairy Farm
We've embarked on a trial at our dairy farm to help reduce methane emissions.
At Gelato Messina, we're always looking for ways to innovate, not just in our gelato but also in how we care for the planet. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with agtech start-up Number 8 Bio to reduce methane emissions on our very own dairy farm in Numurkah, Victoria.
This six-week trial focuses on testing BetterFeed, Number 8 Bio’s innovative methane-reducing feed additive, with our 100% pasture-fed Jersey cows. Known for their rich, creamy milk that makes our gelato so delicious, our cows will help determine the most effective formula for reducing emissions without compromising milk quality or yield.
The trial began in October and measures methane reductions alongside milk performance. If successful, we’ll roll out the feed additive across our entire herd and potentially share this sustainable solution with other Australian dairy farms.
Sustainability and quality go hand-in-hand and this partnership allows us to explore new ways to care for the environment while continuing to deliver the exceptional milk that’s at the heart of our gelato.
Number 8 Bio’s cutting-edge feed technology is designed to make sustainable farming practical and cost-effective for farmers. By reducing methane emissions from livestock, we’re not just protecting the planet—we’re setting the standard for environmentally conscious dairy farming in Australia.
We’re excited to be part of this journey and look forward to sharing the results of the trial soon...
