Hobart, We're Moving In: Opening 7th November
Messina and Shadow Baking open Saturday 7th November at Shop 4, 4 Franklin Wharf, Elizabeth Street Pier, Hobart.
Hobart, we're moving in. Right on the water, and we've brought our sister brand Shadow Baking with us.
We're open 8am til late, 7 days. That's a pastry for breakfast, a scoop after lunch and another one after dinner. Nobody's counting.
THE OPENING SPECIALS
Turning up in Tasmania with a Sydney flavour felt wrong, so both opening specials are built on Miellerie leatherwood honey: pure Tasmanian, cold-extracted and a lot more local than we are.
APPLE OF MY ISLE at Messina
Leatherwood honey gelato with caramelised apple and croissant crunch.
Only at Messina Hobart, and only whilst stocks last.
LEATHERWOOD HONEY & DARK CHOCOLATE TART at Shadow Baking
Leatherwood honey caramel and baked dark chocolate custard, topped with vanilla cream, leatherwood honey jelly and dark chocolate shavings.
WAIT, WHAT'S LEATHERWOOD?
Glad you asked (Tassie locals you can skip ahead, you already know).
Leatherwood (Eucryphia lucida and Eucryphia milliganii) is a tree that grows in the cold, deep rainforest of Tasmania's south-west World Heritage wilderness.
In the still heat of summer, bees work its four-petalled flowers, and what comes out is a soft, floral, very distinctive honey. Put it in a caramel and regular caramel starts looking a bit beige.
WHAT'S IN STORE
Shadow Baking
Coffee and a full cabinet of pastries and toasties. It's grab-and-go at this one, sadly no dine-in but we're right at the water's edge so go take a stroll instead!
Messina
The full gelato cabinet, with your exclusive opening special plus of course our Extra Special Special (currently Mississippi Mud Pie) and our brand new cake range. So yes, the whole lot.
OPENING WEEK EXTRAS
Pay with the Messina app during opening week and every purchase earns double points. Same gelato, twice the points!
MAKE A DAY OF IT
We've landed on the water at Elizabeth Street Pier, with some very good neighbours.
Staying at Citadines Elizabeth Street Pier? We're next door. Shadow for brekky, Messina for late-night scoops, and you barely need to put shoes on (please put shoes on).
Pier is the new restaurant, bar and listening room on the same pier, opening 28th October. Dinner and a record there, dessert with us. Whole night, sorted.
Heading to Mona? The Mona ferry leaves from Brooke Street Pier, a couple of minutes walk away. Coffee and a pastry for the ride over, a scoop when you're back. Art is hungry work.
See you on the pier, Hobart!
