Gelato Ale: Dulce de Leche Beer is here!

Gelato Ale: Dulce de Leche Beer is here!

Wanna make a Messina Beer they asked? Messina x Australian Brewery 'Gelato Ale' launches this December

A few months ago Australian Brewery came to us with an idea and a small keg of Salted Caramel beer. After after a few swigs and testers on a Friday (or Monday) afternoon, we decided the flavour profiles in the salted caramel came across too artificial in taste for us, so we suggested trialing our house-made dulce de leche in the fermentation process. Give or take a few rounds of testing and tweaking, the flavour profile worked so much better using our rich, silky dulce de leche, and we decided this was the way to go. And here we are - delighted to announce we're ready to release a limited edition dulce de leche flavoured ‘Gelato Ale’. Our first ever beer collaboration!

Launching on December 1st, the summer season will be kicking off with a never-before-seen, deliciously refreshing beer which will be available in bottle shops and pubs in NSW.

For those who don't know, we started producing our own Dulce de Leche in house in 2017 after not being able to import the real deal any more. After a pilgrimage to Argentina and some broken Spanglish lessons, we now produce 2 1/2 tonnes per week which we use in all our gelato production, baking, jarring for stores, and now beer!

Renowned for producing consistently outstanding craft beers, Australian Brewery are currently riding a two-year gold medal strike rate for every award entered, including both domestic and international competitions. They have brewed the 'Gelato Ale' collaboration beer using our dulce de leche on-site in Rouse Hill in their process, along with Himalayan pink salt and vanilla bean paste to balance the flavour.

So what does it taste like?

Before you discount it as a sweet dessert beer, let us stop you - described as 'a complex malt character combined with the smooth and creamy nature of dulce de leche' it basically tastes like a delicious beer with smooth caramel notes.

The limited edition Australian Brewery and Messina collaboration will be available on tap at select pubs across Sydney, and in all Dan Murphy’s, select BWS stores and other leading liquor retailers in NSW from December 1st. See list of stockists below.
